My stay at Alley Garden was absolutely fabulous with exception of one thing.I stained the bedsheet with fruit juice and have been charged for it ridiculous price of 200 Yuan.My advice: keep it clean people : )

staff are so friendly and very very helpful they went out of their way to accommodate me \
problem was in winter this hostel is really really cold but they did give extra blankets. would recommend it for a chinese courtyard experience and if you know the subway system it is in a great place

Should have hair dryer and telephone in the room, otherwise its all good. room is a little bit small but very comfortable. will recommand to friends next time when they visit beijing. location is very safe however beijing is too big, 15 mins walk from station to hotel in winter is a tough work.

Great location next to one of the city's premier restaurant streets -- a lively area with very few tourists. And traditional courtyard building is fantastic setting. Main problem is poor insulation that makes rooms chilly unless you put radiators on full. Hotel is accessed by lane-way, which seems completely safe, but is quite dark at night.

Great neighborhood. The lady (manager?) at the front desk was nice, but the guy on the night shift was not. He made 2 rude comments about my Taiwanese background. Also, upon check-in, the guy wouldn't give me a receipt for my room payment until I persisted. Then he asked for 200 RMB more (about USD$30) for a room deposit key. This exceeds the standard amount at other hostels. He was the only negative experience I had during my 4 days in Beijing.

Not many people staying there, not much of a common area, everything was dark pretty early in the night. Good place for peace and quiet, however, and the staff is very nice and accomodating.
