The staff is very friendly and helpful, though not everyone speaks English very well. The double we stayed in was very basic, and the ensuite bathroom even more so. The room was rather cold (in January) so we were given a space heater. If you're looking for a no frills room at a cheap price, this place is great.

It's an old building like many in the area so it is a bit damp and drafty in winter, but it's cheap and you get what you paid for. There is hot water and Turkish breakfast and always fun people around to chat to with advice on the city. Overall I loved Istanbul and enjoyed my stay in Anzac Wooden House which enabled me to see the city. Upstairs there is a big TV, hot water ready for making tea and coffee, backgammon and a water pipe.

directions given on HW are not clear enough,very difficult to find out by night,groundfloor dorm though very tight is ok,hot burning water shower is a real relief,kitchen not very practical for self cooking but Omer,the owner,nice and honest,sometimes cooks for the company but he speaks a desperate english,so be ready to communicate by writting or in turkish, common room is nice place but smoky very often,definetly nice place to stay regarding to the price and location

this was the worst hostel i have stayed in my whole 4 months of travelling around europe. the other rooms actually seemed alright but ours was horrible. the plaster was falling off the walls, it smelt dusty and moldy, and the beds were just crappy mattresses on the floor.

Omer, the captain of this crazy hostel is an insane and cool guy. Its really nice to stay here because of the atmosphere. I stayed in the dorm downstairs the end of september, was quiet cold.

This hostel was far from what we expected using reviews from other guests. the 6 bed dorm with ensuite was more like a bombshelter wth matresses on the floor, cloths to cover up the windows and wiring sticking out of the walls. the "ensuite" was a filthy liitle room with a toilet and a small showerhead behind the door. we used the shower upstairs instead. we saw other rooms in the hostel which looked a lot better than ours. perhaps it would be a lot nicer to stay in a room other than the 6 or7...More
