The front door and my room door were never locked, although it was possible to lock them. I didn't feel uncomfortable though and there was a safe place to leave valuables in the office. My only complaint is that the hostel moved after I booked (only about 2 months before my stay) and I was never contacted with the new address. But the stay turned out to be good and there are 3 computers with internet in the basement as well as the best kitchen that I have seen in a hostel.
