great find in the centre of cairo - the staff were fantastic very helpfull and would help in whatever way they could to make your stay more memorable. The cost was exellent to.

Stay away. When i left the the hostel the guy in the reception tried to make me pay for one extra night - obviously because he new I had no time for delay. I had a train to catch, and therefore he was hoping i would just pay to avoid timeconsuming trouble. Fortunately i'm not easy to fool. I had paid for my two night at arrival, and actually he still owes me 5

The atmosphere was brilliant.The reception staff are very friendly.
I definitely recommend staying.
WARNING: There are several hostels in the building.
When we arrived (jetlagged and experiencing a bit of culture shock) there was a guy at the door of the building who asked if we were staying at the Dahab. He then took us to another hostel in the building (Hotel Vienna) who acted like we had the booking there.
We weren't the only guests of Dahab that this happened to - at least 4 others.

dirty and smelly, to many cats doing there thing on places they shouldn't.
Lot's of hassling and no security at all. In fact we left the place and found a much, much better place nearby for just a bit more.

Good location, really close to the museum. Make sure you get up before 8 to get a hot shower, private rooms are tiny, literally 15cms between the beds and not much room to put your bags. Staff are friendly enough, will organise tours taxis for you at a reasonable price. You get what you pay for. I would stay again.

nov2008:cheap,central,very dirty bathrooms(had a private bathroom),sitting outside on the terrace is wonderful,alcohol shop directly at the corner, staff is very nice,organized trips (airport transfer 60LE, driver for a whole day 200LE). Take care of your money:Leaving the hostel is always a struggle, every person wants to cheat you (tourist region).Don't leave valuables in your room (everybody can take your key from the reception). All in all I would come back,but not more than three nights.

Very helpful and friendly staff. Had to take a few cold showers though, I was not too happy about that!
