my first solo stay in a hostel: very successful. Surrounding area not brilliant (tags everywhere) but chose hostel for interest & proximity to station & very pleased to have shuttle bus to railway readily arranged on arrival. staff could not be more pleasant or helpful. great atmosphere & I was delighted with my single room. spotless & even a snow white towel provided. will definitely be recommending hostel to others. thank you!

Brillaint hostel, the first hostel i have stayed in NZ and if any are as good as this one i will be lucky Fantastic staff and def would stay again

One of the best hostels we have stayed at - friendly staff, clean facilities and on the top of it all the place really has a great character!

Good experience, bit far from the downtown.

We all had a great stay at the Jailhouse and loved the novelty factor as well as the fact it was very clean, kitchen good and well located (20 mins walk).

It was great fun here, the staff are super friendly and helpful. The building is full of history and they have the most amazing beds to sleep in! Its a really interesting place to stay so make sure you do or you'll regret it!

A very interesting place! Clean and ultra comfortable beds in the twin room (apparently designed for the athletes in the Cth Games a few years ago). Walls are nice and sound-proof, great night's sleep. Although taking a shower at night was slightly eerie because it was all so quiet. Highly recommended place to stay!

Staying "in jail" is a hoot and some guests were actually taking pictures of their assigned cells. The ambiance is fun and the staff more than willing to assist but, no one is available in the evening except for an emergency and staff is not "on" until 8:00 a.m. A short bus ride to downtown. Few eateries, bars or entertainment within walking distance still, a fun experience.
