We loved Wake Up! Small and cozy, the staff were more helpful than words can describe. Always ready to write out directions, phonetic translations, or just plain hang out with you. You also get a nice little breakfast in their common room.
Room had AC and thankfully was mosquito free - a very tough thing to find in Egypt.

Building is a bit dodgy (but which one is not in Cairo) and a little tricky to find but excellent location to Egyptian Museum, buses tofrom airport, subway 3 blocks up, food and booze close by.
Note hostel can arrange private cars to take you around but usually at 50%+ premium to a taxi you can negotiate yourself. Public transport is decent to get around in.

The hotel is situatet in Downtown(very noisy,the traffic density is indescribable-that's how it is allover in cairo).The outside from the Marouftower(hostel on the 7.floor) is not really inviting you.Don`t use the stair,very dirty!But the inside from the hostel is a small oase with clean rooms and a communityroom for relaxing.We were very pleased that the pickup us from airport in the late night went like clockwork.The staff is very friendly +helpful.I would recommend it and stay there again.
